Government commits to making private rented homes safer
Today the Government announced the introduction of mandatory electrical checks for the private rented sector, protecting millions of tenants in England from the risk of fire or electrocution.
Here at Safety Checked Ltd we welcome this legislation. We have long said that this legislation is overdue, and we have flown the flag for mandatory electrical inspections and testing (EICR’s). We also hope that the UK Government will follow Scotland in their recent introduction of compulsory smoke detectors in all properties, and increased levels of protection in rented accommodation.
What does this mean for Landlords?
Private landlords should now find clarity in their obligations to provide a safe home for their tenants. We think that mandatory checks will enable landlords to better protect their tenants and property, and give a clear picture of what is required to do so.
Safety Checked Ltd are experienced at carrying out servicing and checks of fire and electrical systems for social housing, student lettings and private landlords throughout County Durham and the North East.
Our Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICR) are a cost effective way to ensure that you are meeting your legal and mandatory obligations for electrical safety.
